Good afternoon families of Dr. E. W. Coffin School,
It is a fantastic Friday morning and looks like we may be past the Winter that will not quit. One of our wonderful families from the middle east told me that, although cold and windy, this is better than a sandstorm, and indeed our students and staff always make the best of any weather here at Dr. Coffin.
The next two weeks will have our physical education classes focusing upon gymnastic type activities. Students will be rolling, crawling, climbing, and balancing using a variety of muscle groups that train core body stability and movement control. To help your student and have fun yourself, the playground is an excellent place to practice (just do not bump your head on the bars).
We are moving into a busy time of year as we plan for next year and look forward to May and June, which will be full of many amazing learning opportunities. Below are our key dates to keep in mind.

Family & Community – Found Items
A wedding band was found in our schoolyard, if anyone knows who this may belong to, please contact the school office.
Also, after the amazing family dance last Friday, an amount of cash was found left behind, if this may be yours, please call the office with the amount and type of cash to claim.
PATs (Grade 6s only)
Alberta Education has announced that Grade 6 English language arts and literature (ELAL) and mathematics provincial achievement tests will not be administered in the 2023/2024 school year. Alberta Education will instead offer field testing between April and June 2024. We will explore these optional field tests for Grade 6 English language arts and literature and mathematics and provide more information to parents when it becomes available. It is important to note that Social Studies 6 (June 18, 2024) and Science 6 (June 19, 2024) PATs will still be administered for all Grade 6 CBE students in June 2024.
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Chris Hooper
