Parents, Visitors & Volunteers
All parents and all visitors must report to the Main Office.
The safety of our children and staff is our first priority and must come before the convenience of others. Parents are reminded that they should check in at the office if you require your child to be called out of class or to drop off lunches. Office staff will gladly contact the classroom to request that your child comes to the office. We will also ensure that your child receives his/her lunch. Parents who pick up their child for an appointment are asked to sign out their child in the ‘Sign-Out Book’ in the office.
Designated Entrance and Exit Doors
All students are expected to wait outside, on the playground and/or the compound at the back of the school, for the 8:40 AM and 1:00 PM bell to ring, except during ‘blue days’. We encourage parents and / or care providers to say goodbye to their children in Grade 1/2, at the outside designated doors to help us foster student independence, responsibility and respect for school rules and routines and to alleviate crowding in our hallways. When the bell rings, students are required to go to their designated door and enter the school under a staff member’s supervision.
| Grade | Entrance/Exit Door |
|---|---|
| Kindergarten | Southwest Door |
| Grade 1/2 | Northeast Door |
| Grade 3/4 | Northeast Door |
| Grade 5/6 | Northwest Door |
Main Entrance Door
The Main Entrance Door is designated for staff, volunteers, guests, parents, mail deliveries, etc., and students who are late. Our school is a secure facility. When you arrive at the main doors you will need to use the intercom system to the right of the door to gain entry to the school. Only when a student is late should they enter the school using the Main doors. Students must also report to the office for a late slip before going to class.
Playground Supervision
Students are supervised by staff during the playground times. Playground supervision begins 10 minutes prior to bell time in the morning. For safety reasons, students should not arrive at school before supervisors are on duty.
Lockdowns
All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.
Evacuation Procedures
In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
Video Surveillance Technology
The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33(b). The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.
Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.
For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
