Good afternoon families of Dr. E. W. Coffin School,
As I write this message, we are enjoying a busy Fresh Air Friday after starting our day with Family Groups. Yesterday, we had an assembly that celebrated some student achievements, addressed the importance of “acts of kindness”, and recognized support staff appreciation week. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful support staff at Dr. E. W. Coffin School. This group of people is very special to our community as they make a difference every day to ensure that each student has a strong sense of belonging at our school. To add to our efforts in creating a strong sense of belonging, this morning’s Family Group discussion questions were based upon the acts of kindness topic introduced in our school assembly. Lastly, students are quite excited about the Family Dance later today and seem to have lots of energy. We hope to see everyone at 6pm. Below is some additional information on the events around our school.

PATs (Grade 6s only)
Alberta Education has announced that Grade 6 English language arts and literature (ELAL) and mathematics provincial achievement tests will not be administered in the 2023/2024 school year. Alberta Education will instead offer field testing between April and June 2024. We will explore these optional field tests for Grade 6 English language arts and literature and mathematics and provide more information to parents when it becomes available. It is important to note that Social Studies 6 (June 18, 2024) and Science 6 (June 19, 2024) PATs will still be administered for all Grade 6 CBE students in June 2024.
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Chris Hooper
